Saturday afternoon, only two days after what would have been his 11th birthday, Menard Park in Galveston was renamed in honor of Johnny Romano. The young skateboarder passed away last September after a prolonged battle with leukemia and was a popular, compelling figure in the local and national skate scene. The JohnnyKicksCancer Foundation started by Johnny’s family also awarded it’s first grant to Texas Children’s Hospital Cancer Center Leukemia team and Johnny’s oncologists, Dr. ZoAnn Dreyer and Dr. Terzah Horton. The JohnnyKicksCancer Foundation is raising awareness and funding for the number one childhood cancer, leukemia.
