Johnny’s doctors just stopped by to give Johnny the daily once over. They really seemed pleased with his progress, and will start backing off on some of his pain and anti-nausea meds. His IV pole currently has six pumps going. It looks like a Christmas tree.
While they were here Johnny’s doctors mentioned that there is a real possibility that he will have to get multi-donor platelets over the weekend because his store of single donor units is running low. Johnny is burning through platelets as fast, or faster, than ever and is getting at least two transfusions every day. I know everyone is very busy preparing for the possibility of a hurricane in the next few days, but if anyone has time to donate platelets for Johnny it would be very much appreciated. Johnny is type A+, and now the CMV doesn’t matter. His last test showed he is positive for the virus, so he can now get platelets from any A+ donor. Platelets are less dependent on type than whole blood, so in a pinch he can get platelets from O- or even other from other blood types, but that would not be preferred. If the blood bank is running short of platelets for Johnny they are probably running short for everyone, so if you have time please donate regardless of blood type.

I’m going Tuesday to donate A+ platelets. You don’t know us, but our family surfs and we have an 11 year old son that surfs TGSA. Our prayers are with ya’ll. With God, all things are possible.
