Johnny’s doctors just stopped by to give Johnny the daily once over. They really seemed pleased with his progress, and will start backing off on some of his pain and anti-nausea meds. His IV pole currently has six pumps going. It looks like a Christmas tree.

Sunday, August 31st, 2008A Little More Comfortable
Sunday, August 31st, 2008Johnny finally seemed to be a little more comfortable today. He still can’t stand, but he is able to put a little more pressure on his feet. His hands didn’t seem to bother him as much today either. His hands did start to peel though. Not like after a sunburn, but big, thick sheets of skin came off his palms. It looked gnarly, but he said it actually felt better to get the dead skin off. Unfortunately the skin underneath looks just as red. Johnny was also awake a lot more today than the last few days. He’s not talking much, but he is starting to watch TV a little more. We watched a really cool program on Discovery about life in the ocean. It was nice seeing him interested in something.
Although we have been very careful with Johnny’s mouth care it looks like he is developing mucusitis. This is a painful condition where the inside of his cheeks develop sores, and the skin slofts. It also causes him to have a lot of bloody saliva. He is really trying not to swallow too much, but he can’t help but get some in his stomach which causes nausea.
